Limits
- Free chlorine: 0.2 - 0.5 ppm
- Hot water after 1 minute: 50 ºC
- Cold water after 1 minute: 20 ºC

Chlorine Pump / UV Control: Chlorine dosing pump and UV control are performed daily.
Example: Operating
Purpose
The aim is to measure daily the temperatures and free chlorine amounts of water from different points within the facility, to check whether equipment used for disinfection such as chlorine dosing and UV are functioning properly, and to record all these operations.
Definitions
- Location: The place where measurement and/or control is performed.
- Date: The date when measurement and/or control is performed (Day/Month/Year, e.g. 05/03/2018).
- Time: The time when measurement and/or control is performed (hour:minute, e.g. 12:30).
- Free chlorine: Amount of free chlorine in cold water (ppm).
- Hot water: Hot water temperature measured after 1 minute of running from taps (°C).
- Cold water: Cold water temperature measured after 2 minutes of running from taps (°C).
- Chlorine pump control: Daily control of chlorine dosing pump.
- UV control: Daily control of UV (Ultraviolet) filter.
- Performed By: Person(s) performing the measurement and/or controls.
Application
Temperature indicators of all boilers inside the boiler room are read and recorded at least once a day. If the indicator is missing or not working, measurements are made using a digital thermometer.
The name/number of the boiler where the measurement or reading is made is written in the Location column on the record form. The Date of measurement is written in the adjacent cell, and the Time is written next to it. The measured value (e.g., 53.5) is written in the Hot Water cell on the same row.
At least one room’s hot and cold water and free chlorine values in cold water are measured and recorded daily. The room number is written in the Location column, with Date and Time next to it.
The cold water tap of the room is opened, the tip of the digital thermometer is held inside the flowing water, and after 1 minute of running, the value read on the thermometer is recorded in the Cold Water cell (e.g., 18.7 °C). Then cold water is filled into the chlorine measurement kit, a DPD 1 tablet is added without touching it, allowed to dissolve, and the resulting color is compared with the color chart to read the free chlorine value, which is recorded in the Free Chlorine cell.
The hot water tap of the room is opened, the tip of the digital thermometer is held inside the flowing water, and after 1 minute of running, the value read on the thermometer is recorded in the Hot Water cell (e.g., 51.9 °C).
If available, the chlorine dosing pump and connected system as well as the UV (Ultraviolet filter) are checked daily. UV lamps are checked; if any lamp is not working or giving a warning, a fault record is made in the Chlorine Dosing/UV control cell.
It is checked whether the chlorine dosing pump is working, whether it is dosing chlorine even if running, and whether there is chlorine left in the chlorine container. If there is an abnormal situation, a fault record is made in the Chlorine Dosing/UV control cell; if everything is normal, "normal" is written.
After measurement and control operations, the person responsible for following up the operations signs in the Performed By cell corresponding to the date of the operations to complete the record process.
Post-Measurement Procedures
If measurement values are below limits, necessary corrections are made:
- Desired values for free chlorine are between 0.2 and 0.5 ppm. If measurement is below 0.2 ppm, chlorine is supplemented to the water tank. If measurement is above 0.5 ppm, chlorine addition is stopped.
- If the measured hot water temperature is below 50 °C, the temperature is increased.
- Measurements in rooms should be made daily from different points, including the farthest points from the boiler room.

Points to Consider
- During measurements, water temperature may be high enough to cause burns.
- During chlorine container inspection and replacement, mask, goggles, and protective clothing may be required against splashes.
