LEGIONELLA PREVENTION – 1 WHAT IS STRATIFICATION?

It refers to the condition where hot water is at the top and cold water is at the bottom inside hot water tanks (boilers, accumulation tanks, etc.).

HOW?

Heated water accumulates at the top of the tank, and cold water enters at the bottom of the tank. The cold and lukewarm zones at the bottom and middle of the tank are suitable areas for the proliferation of LEGIONELLA bacteria.

LEGIONELLA PREVENTION?

1. All hot water tanks, including solar energy accumulation tanks and boilers, should be heated so that 60 ºC hot water flows from their drains (drainage), and this level should be maintained for at least 1 hour. This should be done daily.
2. A shunt pump should be installed to circulate and mix the bottom and top of the tank.
